W-9 a must!

It is so important you keep a completed W-9 with you at all times if you are a small business that works for other businesses. I have know some businesses that will not pay you until they have a completed W-9. In order to complete a W-9, you need either your Social Security number or an EIN. My opinion it is always best to get an EIN. You can have the W-9's preprinted and ready to hand out. You do not have to worry about giving out your Social Security Number. IT IS FREE! Go to www.irs.gov and in the search box type in ein. You can file online and have an EIN within seconds. Make sure you also print a few blank ones when you need the W-9. Remember also you will need to get a W-9 whether or not they are a corporation. They must mark on your W-9 that they are a corporation. You do not need to give them a 1099-misc if they are a corporation, but in case you need it you need the W-9 in your file!

1099 Woes

Well I hope everyone has heard about the new 1099-K that will tell you how much money you brought using a credit card processor or website like PayPal. Well it seems as though they are going to change it again! You will probably still receive a 1099-K this year if you processed credit cards, but there is no where to report it! That right! On the business forms where you should report it it says, "For 2011, write in 0"For tax professionals and others David Purkey has a great video that may answer some questions. WOW I love this thing. If you are thinking about a new phone you have to try this one. I just love all of the apps and things you can do with this phone. They also have so many podcasts that are free. If you want to learn this is the way to go. today I found I-Tunes University. WOW. I also made my own app (simple) and you can check it out for free. Download buzztouch and check out all the apps on it. I have several, Oregon Tax Pro, Real Time Bookkeeping and our Networking group- Sources.

Try it and then look up my apps Sources (our networking group) Oregon Tax Pro, QuickBooks, and Real Time Bookkeeping.

As I sat at my desk the other morning about 4am, I opened my e-mail. There was a note from a previous tax client and it said she had faxed over her tax information and asked me to prepare her taxes this year. I thought to myself, how nice I can sit her in my jammies and do some taxes!
Next my son im'd me and says here is the website for my W-2. Can you do my taxes for me. So I finished up my client and then did my son's taxes.
Just as I got his done, I received an e-mail from another client that had her w-2 attached to the e-mail.
So I did her taxes.

All before most people are out of bed I had completed 3 tax returns.

I love technology!

Online QuickBooks Class

QuickBooks Seminar

A new seminar will start in November. There will be 2 classes, both of which are on Saturdays. The first will be a beginning quickbooks class that will teach you how to set up a company, enter customer and vendors and understand the checking account register. Busy Summer

Wow it has been a busy summer. I just got home from a very hot Las Vegas! It was wonderful, but my purpose was to attend the IRS seminar. It is always real interesting. Over 4,000 tax professionals attended this years event. Yes it was crowded! The learning experience is wonderful though.

A great one is also Habitat for Humanity Restore. They take things that Goodwill won't.

New Stimulas?

Congress is expected to pass another economic stimulus package sometime in February or March!
Wow how about this one. We will have to wait and see.

Well tax season is upon us and of course my computer had to die.
My favorite computer guru Carl Cochran helped me through it.
He is fabulous!

This year will be very interesting for taxes, considering a new President.

I expect to see many new changes during the year.
I plan on going to as many conferences as I can to keep abreast of all of the changes.

2009 Inflation Adjustments Widen Tax Brackets and Expand Tax Benefits

WASHINGTON — For 2009, personal exemptions and standard deductions will rise and tax brackets will widen because of inflation adjustments announced today by the Internal Revenue Service.

By law, the dollar amounts for a variety of tax provisions must be revised each year to keep pace with inflation. As a result, more than three dozen tax benefits, affecting virtually every taxpayer, are being adjusted for 2009. Key changes affecting 2009 returns, filed by most taxpayers in early 2010, include the following:

· The value of each personal and dependency exemption, available to most taxpayers, is $3,650, up $150 from 2008.

· The new standard deduction is $11,400 for married couples filing a joint return (up $500), $5,700 for singles and married individuals filing separately (up $250) and $8,350 for heads of household (up $350). Nearly two out of three taxpayers take the standard deduction, rather than itemizing deductions, such as mortgage interest, charitable contributions and state and local taxes.

· Tax-bracket thresholds increase for each filing status. For a married couple filing a joint return, for example, the taxable-income threshold separating the 15-percent bracket from the 25-percent bracket is $67,900, up from $65,100 in 2008.

· The maximum earned income tax credit for low and moderate income workers and working families with two or more children is $5,028, up from $4,824. The income limit for the credit for joint return filers with two or more children is $43,415, up from $41,646.

· The annual gift exclusion rises to $13,000, up from $12,000 in 2008.

On Saturday October 25th at the Red Lion in McMinnville Oregon, I will be hosting a small business seminar. I am so excited about the information I can give the attendees.

We are going to start off with business entity types. Being informed about different entities you will be able to make an informed decision about what you should do. There are so many complex reasons in deciding on the entities.

Next we will get right into the guts of the matter. Expenses. This workshop will include the different types of expenses deductible and where they go. I will also have ideas for you to make the most of your deductions.

The Home Office. I love this one. This can reduce your tax burden a great deal if done correctly. I will not only show you the rules, but I will help you understand the process.

Hiring your family members can be a great savings to you. I will help you understand about why you should hire your family members and just what you will need to do. This is a must see!
